New Orleans — A 21-year-old New Orleans man was booked with second-degree murder Wednesday after authorities said he and an accomplice shot five people in 2011, in an incident that left one man dead and a toddler wounded.
Thaddeus Ross is being held by police on $500,000 bond. Police said Ross shot five people in the 800 block of Felicity Street on Valentine’s Day 2011.
According to court records, police say they believe one other man also assisted in the shooting, while another man drove the vehicle the two men fired from.
The incident left two men, a woman and a 13-month-old boy wounded. Another man died a few days after the shooting.
Police said at the time that several of the victims were hanging around the River Gardens apartment complex. They weren’t residents.
New Orleans — Police are searching for two men who robbed a 75-year-old man at gunpoint in his eastern New Orleans home Tuesday night.
The incident was reported in the 4800 block of Virgilian Street around 9:38 p.m., according to police. They said the elderly man was putting out his trash when two men approached him with a gun. Police said the men forced the victim inside his home, struck him in the head with the gun and then fired three shots. The robbers allegedly fled on foot with the victim’s shotgun.
Marrero — A grandmother was arrested Tuesday after authorities discovered she was binding her grandchildren’s arms as they slept at night.
Mariniece Craft, 51, was booked with two counts of cruelty to a juvenile after her 9-year-old and 11-year-old grandchildren reported the strange ritual to officials at their school. The children said Craft would bind their arms behind their backs with zip ties and then tie them to each other.
Officials found welts on the children’s arms, and Craft admitted to the confinement, according to an arrest report. She said she would keep the children confined from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
New Orleans — A 42-year-old Covington woman admitted stealing near $200,000 from the Metairie dentist she worked for in federal court on Wednesday.
Kelly Muller pleaded guilty to embezzlement of health care funds, according to U.S. Attorney Dana Boente’s office. Muller stole the money from 2008 to 2010 by adding authorized payments to her paycheck and making personal credit card purchases with the company’s credit card.
New Orleans — A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after authorities said he brought a handgun to an Algiers high school.
Melvin Russell was booked with having a firearm at a school function and is being held on $50,000 bond. Police said a detail officer at O. Perry Walker High School got a tip that Russell had a gun on school grounds. According to court records, when the officer searched Russell’s bookbag, he found the weapon, which was loaded and had an extended magazine.
New Orleans — Police arrested a man Tuesday after they said he had a sexual encounter with a teenager he met on Craigslist.
Sean Green, 33, was booked with indecent behavior with a juvenile and felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
New Orleans police said Green responded to a sexually explicit ad from a 16-year-old boy and then met up with the boy at his home in Algiers. Green had oral sex with the boy and then left, according to court records.
The incident was discovered by the boy’s mother after she read his email.
NEW ORLEANS — Police on Wednesday investigated the shooting death of a 21-year-old Algiers man found on a front porch shortly after 5 p.m.
The shooting occurred in the 800 block of Belleville Street, and the man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, a police spokesman said in a news release.

Waggaman — Investigators executing a search warrant at a Waggaman home Tuesday found a mother and son with guns and drugs, according to an arrest report.
Jarrius Garner, 30, and his mother, Pamela Garner, 56, were arrested at their home in the 100 block of Gardenia Lane.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the home and found about 78 grams of marijuana and an assault rifle with a drum magazine in Jarrius Garner’s room, according to an arrest report.
They also found 22 grams of marijuana and a .25 caliber pistol in his mother’s room, the report said.
Jarrius Garner was booked with being a felon in possession of a weapon, possession of a Schedule I substance with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance and a firearm.
Pamela Garner was booked with marijuana possession and possession of a controlled substance and a firearm.
