Connections for Life Director Karen Stagg spoke to the John James Audubon Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution’s community service meeting on Jan. 21 at Regent Margaret Tyler’s home.
Stagg said the Baton Rouge program helps women with a felony record re-enter society and lead productive lives. CFL runs a thrift store, provides transportation and housing, helps women get jobs and reconnect with their families. Also, CFL teaches women how to budget, encourages a recovery program, suggests membership in a faith community, provides an opportunity for volunteer work.
Cynthia Moses introduced herself as a CFL success story. Stagg said that donations of clothing and household items are welcomed. DAR members brought small gift items and personal care products for the women of the program.
Members brought Labels for Education for the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Grant, Ala., books for the War Veterans Home in Jackson and personal care items for the men at Raven’s Outreach.
The chapter elected State Conference delegates: Tyler, Betty Jo Snellgrove, Carole Gloger and Gerry Ryder. Meeting co-hostesses were Frankie Platte, Georgia LaCour, Caroline Tyler, Shirley Newsham and Glenda Carlile.
DAR membership is open to women at least 18 years old who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage and death. For information, contact email@example.com.
