As part of its Distinguished Lecture Series, the LSU College of Art & Design will welcome architectural designers Abigail Coover and Nathan Hume at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Room 103 of the Design Building. The lecture, sponsored by VOA Associates, is free and open to the public.
Coover and Hume are practicing architectural designers in Brooklyn, N.Y., as partners at Hume Coover Studio, where they strive to engage popular culture and contemporary architectural form through built and speculative projects. Their work has been published in the New York Times, Wired, Metropolis, Archiworld and Topos, and they have exhibited at the Yale University School of Architecture, the New York Center for Art and Architecture and the Museum of Modern Art. The two are also co-creators and editors of http://www.suckerPUNCHdaily.com, a website that reviews work of contemporary artists, architects and designers who offer the stunningly unexpected and beautiful.
In addition to being visiting assistant professors at Pratt Institute, Coover is also an adjunct professor at the New Jersey School of Architecture. Hume is co-teaching with Tom Wiscombe at the Yale School of Architecture and the University of Pennsylvania. They have also taught several digital design workshops at the Yale School of Architecture, The Danish Royal Academy, and Texas A&M University.
With suckerPUNCH, Abigail and Nathan Hume have recently mounted their first exhibition, Fresh Punches, at the Land of Tomorrow Gallery in Louisville, Ky., and are participating in and co-sponsoring the upcoming conference, “Possible Mediums,” at The Ohio State University.
Both Coover and Hume received their master of architecture degrees from the Yale University School of Architecture. Coover received her bachelor of science in architecture from the University of Virginia, while Hume received his bachelor of science in architecture from The Ohio State University.
