University girls advance to soccer semifinals

HAMMOND — Annabell Simpson and Abbey Underwood scored two goals each to lift the Cubs to a 5-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas in girls Division III quarterfinal playoff action Friday.

Madison Catalanotto added a fifth goal for University, which will face the winner of the Newman-Academy of Sacred Heart game in the semifinals.

The third -seeded Cubs (21-2-2) got two saves from goalkeeper Elizabeth Bankhead.

Boys soccer

ST. LOUIS 4, ST. MICHAEL 0: Alex Kjellsten scored the first three goals and Patrick Ieyoub added the fourth to key the win for the second-seeded Saints on Thursday.

Fifteenth-seeded St. Michael, which beat Belle Chasse 2-1 in the first round of the playoffs, saw its season end.

St. Louis advances to play seventh-seeded Bolton at 3 p.m. Monday.

Most of the boys soccer playoffs continue Saturday.
