Blackgama Photos
at the Ogden
More than 50 black-and-white photographs from the famous “Blackgama” ad campaign will go on view Thursday in the exhibition, “What Becomes a Legend Most?: The Blackglama Photographs from the Collection of Peter Rogers.” Photos are from the heyday of the campaign, 1968 to 1993, and feature a lineup that includes opera singer Leontyne Price, musician Ray Charles, and actors Shirley MacLaine and Rosalind Russell. Easter and
St. Joseph’s Day
Get an early start on both holidays this year: On Saturday, bunny-hop to the French Market for a petting zoo, Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. in Dutch Alley and a second-line. Sunday is a day of Italian pastries, historic photos, St. Joseph’s Day altars and children’s craft activities. The Paul Ferrara Trio performs vintage New Orleans jazz at noon Sunday. All free. Mardi Gras Indians parade
The New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council gathers Sunday at noon at A.L. Davis Park, Washington and LaSalle streets in Central City, then parade in all their finery through the Central City neighborhood. Meanwhile, at Bayou St. John and Orleans Avenue, Indians with the Tambourine and Fan organization stage their traditional annual Super Sunday parade.
