Addressing the needs: With eight starters returning on both sides of the ball, Southern’s main focus was adding depth. But bringing in a playmaker like Baker fills the void left by Charles Hawkins and Michael Berry, senior wide receivers on last year’s team.
WHERE THEY STAND: Southern not only brought aboard 26 newcomers, but it also reaffirmed its commitment to recruiting the state of Louisiana. Seventeen of the 26 signees hail from the Bayou State.
Lagniappe: West St. John had four players sign with Southern. The same school produced Joseph, who signed with Southern in 2010 and last year led the Southwestern Athletic Conference in passing.
Coach odums says: “The recruiting will still be going on for us. We’re going to evaluate our team through the spring, and we might even look to add a few more transfers over the summer.”
