NEW ORLEANS — The 2013 Hermes Grand Ball and Supper Dance were held Feb. 7 at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside.
There was a champagne reception in the Chemin Royale, followed by the presentation in the Grand Ballroom and the Supper Dance in the Grand Salon.
The ball theme, “The Theatrical Baroque,” illustrated the period in history when Europe, having shed the dark strife of the Middle Ages with the Renaissance, then realized an era of florid, ostentatious excellence in the arts.
The set was a reproduction of a Mount Olympian temple with fluted columns, intermingled with vines. The Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra provided music at the ball, while Jimmy Maxwell and Liquid Pleasure alternated entertaining at the supper dance.
Reigning as Her Royal Majesty, Queen of Hermes 2013, was Taylor Leigh Ann Rees, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rick S. Rees. The queen graced the throne in a shimmering gown by Suzanne Perron. Intertwining bands of silver lamé were woven over layers of metallic tulle and ivory Italian silk satin.
The trumpet silhouette was accentuated with additional floating lame bands shaped into articulated godets. Ornate appliques fashioned of tulle, Swarovski crystals, sequins, and beads adorned the bodice, skirt and hem. An ornate Medici collar framed the royal neckline, and the organization’s traditional mantle and the queen’s crown and scepter completed the ensemble.
Mrs. Rees wore a deep royal blue silk jacquard strapless ball gown with a hand-tufted skirt and horsehair trim detailing, designed by Monique Lhuillier.
Her Majesty’s eight maids were: Delia Caroline Bennett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dorian Major Bennett; Suzanne Michelle Bruno, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Michael Bruno; Julia Katherine Harrison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Andrew Harrison; Kelley Ann Pettus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Leon Pettus; Stephanie Marie Roca, daughter of Dr. Cesar Mario Roca Jr. and Dr. Theresa Pryor Roca; Shelby Elizabeth Sanderford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Britton Sanderford Jr.; Elena Marina Tumminello, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Vincent Victor Tumminello Jr.; and Mary Elizabeth Tumminello, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ignatius Tumminell.
Hermes Bearer of the Scepter was Anna Grace Ortemond Franques, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andre Charles Franques.
The Bearer of the Flowers was Constantine Elena Rodriguez, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ricardo Jose Rodriguez.
The eight ladies in waiting to Rees were Henly Linnette Crosby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Michael Crosby; Charley Collette Halpern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Jay Halpern; Eloisa Brooke Patron, daughter of Mr. David Patron and Mrs. Mindy Brickman, and stepdaughter of Dr. Rebekka Gee Patron; Lauren Michelle Perlis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Wicker Perlis; Georgina Kendall Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Baxter Peters III; Mason Elisabeth Poole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Cater Poole; Catherine Jean Sherling, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edward Creech Sherling III; and Anastasia Maria Thaller, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Timothy Ratcliffe Thaller.
