Nonprofits collecting Carnival beads

The first parades of Lafayette’s Carnival season begin Saturday and two local nonprofits hope to have some beads thrown their way, too.

Arc of Acadiana and LARC are separate organizations with a common goal to provide services and support to developmentally disabled residents. Both groups have organized bead collection drives to provide jobs and skills training for their clients. The collected beads are a source of employment for the disabled, who sort and prepare the beads for resale.

On Sunday, LARC will have a trailer rolling in the Scott parade that begins at 1 p.m. with a sign that encourages those attending parades to “throw us back your beads.” Beads for LARC may be dropped off at any Goodwill store location.

Starting Wednesday and through March 20, donations for Arc of Acadiana may be dropped off at Lafayette Auto Dealer Association member dealerships: Service Chevrolet Cadillac; Giles Nissan, Volvo, Subaru; Acadiana Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Mazda; Sterling KIA, Hyundai, Suzuki; Southwest Volkswagen; Moss Motors Honda, BMW, Mercedes-Benz; Courtesy Buick, GMC; Hampton Toyota, Mitsubishi; and Hub City Ford.

Below is a schedule of when and where parades will roll:
