New Orleans — A 27-year-old woman was found dead on a Central City sidewalk Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The unidentified woman was found shortly before 1 p.m. near the intersection of Loyola Avenue and Fourth Street.
Police say she was found with multiple gunshot wounds and are withholding her name until her family can be notified.
New Orleans — A motorcyclist who died after crashing into a tree Sunday afternoon was identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office on Monday.
Tyrone Davis, 47, lost control of his motorcycle near the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and Stephen Girard Drive around 5 p.m.
Police said they believe he clipped an S.U.V. parked on the roadway, was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a tree.
Toxicology reports on Davis are pending.
New Orleans — Police arrested a man Sunday for allegedly fighting with his girlfriend in his car, then trying to crash the vehicle to kill them both.
Edward Shepard, 28, was booked with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and domestic abuse battery.
Police say that about 1:15 a.m. he crashed his car into a tree on Michoud Boulevard after telling his girlfriend he was going to kill both of them. Shepard was apparently angry about her attendance at a party earlier that night, police said. Both of them were taken to a hospital for treatment.
New Orleans — Police arrested Carlos Freeman, 25, and Jason Johnson, 24, after authorities say they robbed a bricklayer Saturday.
The incident was reported in the 700 block of Clouet Street. Police say Freeman, of New Orleans, and Johnson, of Miami, approached the victim while he was working in a front yard. The victim reported that Freeman put a gun to his head while Johnson went through his pockets and stole money, credit cards and his car keys. Police eventually arrested the men after Johnson purchased several items with the victim’s credit cards, according to an arrest report.
Gretna — A 21-year-old Gretna man is in custody after authorities say he admitted to molesting a toddler and taping the incidents on his wireless phone.
Roy Dixon was booked Saturday with aggravated rape, pornography involving a juvenile and sexual battery. He remains in custody.
He is accused of repeatedly molesting a 1-year-old girl and creating home videos of the abuse. Dixon claimed he was making those videos for a friend, authorities said.
New Orleans — A 27-year-old man was arrested Friday after his girlfriend told police that he molested her daughter while babysitting.
Police booked Evaristo Piedra with sexual battery for allegedly molesting the girl when her mother went to the hospital. The mother, who had been dating Piedra for 15 months, asked him to watch the child, police said. The girl told her mother about the abuse when she returned home, police said.
New Orleans — A New Orleans man who police say shot two men to defend his girlfriend’s honor was booked with two counts of aggravated battery Saturday.
Darius Byrd, 19, is accused of shooting two men in Algiers on Dec. 22 after the men argued with his girlfriend. According to authorities, the girlfriend called Byrd to complain, then picked him up to bring him back to the house. She waited in the car while he shot two men in the legs in 2900 block of Lawrence Street, police said. The girlfriend eventually identified Byrd as the shooter, arrest records say.
New Orleans — A suspected identity thief, who authorities say defrauded seven casinos of roughly $125,000, was arrested at a New Orleans casino Friday.
Deamioune Caples, 24, is being held on $140,000 bond after being booked with 23 counts related to identity theft and fraud. Police say Caples was captured at Harrah’s New Orleans after security cameras there caught him trying to get a $500 cash advance using a counterfeit debit card.
According to court records, Caples has been wanted by agencies across the state since September, and police found multiple counterfeit debit cards in his possession, along with a designer wallet and keys to a luxury vehicle.
Kenner — Kenner Police arrested a LaPlace woman Friday after she admitted to purchasing stolen personal information to get illegal food stamp benefits.
Idell Williams, 52, was arrested for allegedly buying nearly $700 worth of groceries using someone else’s food stamp benefits.
Police said Williams told them she purchased the card information from someone who works in the state office that handles that benefit.
New Orleans — Police are searching for a 34-year-old man accused of robbing an acquaintance in Algiers using a kitchen knife.
Charley James is wanted for armed robbery after police say he robbed a man Saturday night in the 3400 block of Wall Boulevard.
James allegedly held a kitchen knife against the victim’s stomach and took money from his pockets. The victim struggled with James and suffered cuts to his fingers, police said.
Covington — The Louisiana State Fire Marshal arrested a Covington man Monday after authorities say he burned his home this summer for the insurance proceeds and attention.
Rod Francis Davis, 32, was booked with arson with intent to defraud and cruelty to an animal after investigators say he became so enamored with the attention a neighbor received when his house was struck by lightning that Davis decided to burn down his own home.
In July, firefighters were called out to blaze on South Lakeshore Drive, according to James Hartman, a spokesman for St. Tammany Fire Protection District 12. At that time, Davis tried hard to get on the television news as firefighters handled the blaze, Hartman said.
The next day, firefighters were called back to Davis’ house for a fire and became suspicious when he kept asking when the camera crews were going to arrive, Hartman said. Authorities believe he locked his dog in the burning house so he could come back and rescue her.
