NEW ORLEANS — Larry Schmidt, the first director of the New Orleans Preservation Resource Center and longtime Louisiana director of the Trust for Public Land, has been named executive director of the historic 1826 Beauregard-Keyes House and Garden in the New Orleans French Quarter.

Schmidt, a New Orleans native, assumed the position Jan. 1, after his retirement from the Trust for Public Land.

“I view this as a cause more than a job,” Schmidt said. “Beauregard-Keyes House is one of the most historic homes in a city known for its architectural heritage, and my mission is to make this fascinating story known to a wider audience.”

While at the Trust for Public Land, Schmidt led the Trust’s successful efforts, in conjunction with the New Orleans City Park Improvement Association, to restore and enhance the 50-acre Big Lake area near the entrance to New Orleans’ City Park after Hurricane Katrina.
