The East Baton Rouge Parish Recreation and Parktwo years, Commission Chairman Kenneth Riche said Thursday.

McKnight is completing the first year of her two-year contract.

The extension will prevent BREC from having to possibly renew McKnight’s contract in 2014, when Commission will consider extending the contract of Superintendent Carolyn McKnight one or 6 mills of dedicated property tax will go before the voters for renewal.

“I don’t think it’s very prudent that we be looking for a superintendent at that point,” Riche said.

The extension would not include a raise in McKnight’s $150,000-per-year salary, Riche said.

“We are not talking about any monetary difference,” he said. “We need to iron out a couple of small differences, in terms of retirement plan.”

Riche said he will recommend the commission discuss the matter behind closed doors at its February meeting.
