Jeff Parish agency honors counselor
Sandra Sumler, GSW, is employee of the quarter at Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority. Sumler, a social service counselor in the adult services division, has been employed at JPHSA since January 2001. She was recognized for her leadership skills and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed.

West Jeff sets fair on heart health
West Jefferson Medical Center, 1101 Medical Center Blvd., in Marrero hosts a free EKG and health fair Thursday
“Hustle for a Healthy Heart Muscle” will include glucose, blood pressure and BMI screenings, and demonstrations on healthful cooking and exercise.
Three talks are planned: “Heart Disease in Women” at 12:15 p.m.; a patient success story at 12:30 p.m.; and an EMS talk about myths on calling 911 and heart attack equipment at 12:40 p.m. Entertainment is also planned, beginning at 1 p.m.

Expectant moms invited to open house
Ochsner North Shore in Slidell invites area moms-to-be to an open house event to learn about the hospital’s birthing center at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Women’s Center, 100 Medical Center Drive, Slidell.
The free event will feature tours of the labor and delivery unit as well as the mother and baby, nursery and pediatric rooms.
Moms also will have the opportunity to meet with health care professionals trained in caring for expectant moms and their babies including labor and delivery nurses, anesthesia specialists, pediatric intensive care providers, lactation and dietary consultants and maternal/child healthcare educators. Walk to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Louisiana is looking for volunteers and walkers for Walk MS: New Orleans on Saturday in Aububon Park.
There is no minimum pledge or registration fee for participants. Registration starts at 8 a.m.; the walk starts at 9 a.m. Dogs are welcome.

The Health & Fitness Expo will be open free to the public Friday and Saturday at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center.

The Greater New Orleans Immunization Network bus offers free shots to children who lack insurance coverage for vaccinations. The network also maintains a computerized registry for easy record-keeping.
