Katy O’Connell, a student at Fontainebleau High school, sang the national anthem at the Tulane-Rice basketball game Jan. 26.
O’Connell dances 10 hours a week with Apetrei Dance Co., and has acted in Playmakers plays such as Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” “Oliver,” “Les Miserables” and “Cats.” Recently, she played the role of Nora, the “roadway wannabe” in Neil Simon’s “Brighton Beach Memoirs.”
O’Connell also sings at festivals, fundraisers, and sang recently on WWL TV’s “Morning Show” representing the St. Tammany Parish Parenting Center fundraiser, at which she was also the headliner.
She sang the national anthem for the Zephyrs last season.
O’Connell, who is a sophmore at Fontainebleau High School, would like to be employed as a singer, dancer and actor.
