Police: Woman gave teens drugs

A 29-year-old Port Sulphur woman is behind bars for allegedly having sex with a minor and giving him and his brother marijuana, according to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies began their investigation Monday when the mother of two boys told them she believed a family friend was giving marijuana to her sons and having sex with one of them.

The boys are 17 and 15, but the alleged intercourse happened when the older boy was 16, said Commander Eric J. Becnel, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the identity of the suspect in order to protect the identity of the victims, Becnel said.

An investigation found that the sexual activity began last summer, at which point the woman also began to smoke with the boys and provide them with marijuana.

Becnel said that on “several” occasions, the woman would take the then-16-year-old boy with her to buy drugs that she would smoke with the teens in her home.

Statements investigators took from the boys corroborated their mother’s report, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect was arrested Monday and admitted during an interview with investigators to having sex with the older teen and smoking with them, Becnel said.

The woman was booked with carnal knowledge of a juvenile, sexual battery, indecent behavior with a juvenile, molestation of a juvenile and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She remains in custody in lieu of a $65,000 bond, Becnel said.
