Advocate staff photo by ARTHUR D. LAUCK - Crews work Thursday to secure in place the final piece of “The Crest,” a $900,000 sculpture over the Galvez Plaza Stage in downtown Baton Rouge. The sculpture is a 65,000 pound, 35-foot tall curved oval with 16,700 square feet of stainless steel. The stage cover will also be able to hold up lighting and sound equipment catering to downtown performances. The project was funded through state sales tax rebates dedicated to downtown Riverfront projects.Crews work to complete the canopy, called The Crest, over the North Boulevard Town Square stage in downtown Baton Rouge. The 65,000-pound, 35-foot tall, curved oval which will act as both a piece of public art as a functional performance stage cover to hold up lighting and sound equipment.
