Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux signed a proclamation on Jan. 14 designating Jan. 27 to Feb. 2 as Catholic Schools Week in the city.
The city took the moment as an opportunity to recognize St. John Catholic Primary-St. Theresa Catholic Middle schools’ contributions to the area by providing education for 53 years, a news release from the school states.
The Catholic Schools Week theme for 2013 is “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards.”
Catholic school students will be honored during Masses set to be held:
Sunday: 11 a.m. Mass at St. Mark Church in Gonzales.
Sunday: 11 a.m. Mass at Holy Rosary Church in St. Amant. A reception will follow after each Mass that day.
Sunday: 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Theresa of Avila Church in Gonzales.
Feb. 3: 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Anne Church in Sorrento.
Feb. 3: 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Prairieville.
