A State Farm claims office on O’Neal Lane has been sold for $1 million.
The building, at 2077 O’Neal Lane, was purchased by Stateland LLC in a deal that was filed Tuesday, according to records with the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court’s Office.
Stateland’s registered agent is Peggy Day Westerman, of Baton Rouge, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s corporations database.
The property is in front of a Wal-Mart, a quarter-mile south of Interstate 12.
Gary Stephenson, a spokesman for State Farm, said while up to 50 people used to work out of the office, changes in technology and claims processing led to a shift in the number of employees.

Doug Ferris, of Re/Max First Commercial, was the agent for the buyer of the O’Neal property, while Branon Pesnell, of Beau Box Commercial Real Estate, represented State Farm.
Ferris said the office building is in a “very good location” with “well-appointed office space.”
Depending on market demand, he said the new owners may keep the building as an office or they may remodel it for retail.
Medical office space is also a possibility, Ferris said.

“We’re in the process of evaluating locations and looking at their capacity and how well-filled and well-utilized they are,” Stephenson said.
The employees at the O’Neal office have been moved to State Farm’s operations center in the Towne Center at Cedar Lodge.
Stephenson said as part of the ongoing consolidation of office space, State Farm is evaluating the 60,000-square-foot building in Towne Center that it is leasing.
