Spirituals festival vocal concert set at NOCCA

New Orleans Center for Creative Arts stages a Festival of Spirituals Vocal Concert featuring student performers in the vocal music program and NOCCA choirs on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Nims Blackbox Theatre on NOCCA’s campus, 2800 Chartres St, New Orleans.

The concert, part of African-American History Month at NOCCA, is billed as “an uplifting celebration of those who have faced adversity for us.”

Winning art will illustrate Rodrigue group cookbook

The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts is holding its 4th Annual Art Contest for high school juniors and seniors on the theme “Louisiana’s Cultural Heritage” in partnership with the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation.

Scholarships and awards totaling $45,000 will be given away and winning artwork will be used in a new cookbook published by GRFA. The cookbook will showcase winning artwork and 100 recipes from Louisiana’s greatest chefs, with proceeds benefiting Rodrigue and Restaurant Foundation programs.

School Leadership Center offers leadership training

The School Leadership Center of Greater New Orleans is inviting principals and assistant principals to submit applications for its Fellows Program, a two-year leadership-training program.

Since 1997, SLC-GNO has trained more than 300 local administrators. Many have gone on to become superintendents or nationally recognized principals.

This leadership-training program includes two weeklong summer institutes that bracket three Saturday sessions with the leader and school leadership team.

Applications are due by April 1 and are available online at http://www.slc-gno.org. Cost for the two-year program is $5,300.
