The ballroom of the American Legion Hall was transformed into a sky filled with rainbows and hot air balloons for the 16th annual Krewe of Lyonnesse Mardi Gras Ball, themed “Up, Up and Away.”
King and Queen Lyonnesse XVI Dylan Michael Zeringue and Jasmin Hare Pizer reigned over the Jan. 26 festivities.
His majesty, a Catholic High School junior, is the son of David and Angela Zeringue and the grandson of Sterling and Sharon Zeringue and Earl and Sandra Hoffmann. Her majesty, a senior at The Runnels School, is the daughter of John and Patricia Hare Pizer and the granddaughter of Roselle Pizer and the late Dr. Marvin Pizer, Dr. Robert Hare and Lynn Hare.
The royal couple, displaying the crest of Lyonnesse, representing “Tyme, Tryeth and Tryth,” entered the ballroom with their attendants, Prince James Van Hook and Princess Ann Stocker.
Presented as returning royalty from 2012 were King and Queen Lyonnesse XV, Brian Joseph Arceneaux and Mary Katherine Koch, and their attendants, Abby Frances Blaize and Amber Marie Moran. They were joined by King and Queen Lyonnesse XIV, Hays Clary and Emily Lewis, for a welcome of guests to enjoy a magical flight with the children of the Krewe of Lyonnesse.
Malcolm McNiece and Sydney Kate Richmond kicked off the festivities parading among the guests and paying homage to the king and queen with a magic carpet ride as Aladdin and Jasmin. Hailing from the world of Superheroes were Patrick Gaudet and Mason Sheely as Ironman and the Green Lantern, along with Ben Papizan and Merritt Sheely as Superman and Wonder Woman.
Also taking flight were Ann Malloy Kimble and Marley Graves as Flight Attendants; Jacob and Joseph Shapiro as Fighter Pilots; Donovan Bailey as a Skydiver and Maddie Richmond as a Flying Fish.
Flying in from the silver screen were Julian Romano and Emily Bailey as Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, along with Max Kimble and Ramsey Graves as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Alden Romano and Olivia Van Hook were natural wonders as Lightning and Rain; while Ben Bailey, Elizabeth Odeh and Ainsley Graves fluttered in as a Dragonfly, a Butterfly and a Ladybug.
Samuel Shapiro and Mary Michael Richmond hailed from the mystical realm as a Greek God and Goddess, along with Christina Arey and Hannah Papizan who represented Angels; and Elizabeth Arey and Sophia Shapiro who were Fairies.
The tableau ended with Maggie Kimble, Michaela Mitchell and Riana Gaudet parading through the ballroom as Fireworks along with their Fire Starter, Grayson Papizan.
Following the krewe presentation, the royal couple led fellow krewe members in a traditional second line, then along with their guests, danced the night “Up, Up and Away” to the beat of Color Blind.
The mission of the Krewe of Lyonnesse is to celebrate the family while enjoying the southern Louisiana traditions of Mardi Gras. Children between the ages of 3 and high school graduation participate in the ball procession and ride in the Southdowns Parade. In addition, the krewe participates in several community service activities and presents an annual tableau for the residents of Williamsburg Retirement Center.
