At 7 p.m. Wednesday, St. Martin’s Episcopal School will host a program for parents of eighth-graders through senior high school students on the challenges of raising teenagers.
The program is called “Mixing Teens with Alcohol: A Panel Discussion for Parents” and will feature three panelists. They are Capt. Carl Saizan Jr., commander of the Louisiana State Police, Troop B; Bridget Gardner, a registered nurse with the LSU Public Hospital; and Michelle Scandurro, the head of St. Martin’s upper school.
The program’s aim is to help parents with setting expectations, how they can help their teenage children make good decisions and how to deal with difficult issues concerning teens and alcohol.
The program will be held in St. Martin’s Peyton Center on the school campus, 208 Haring Road, Metairie.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Krewe of Little Rascals will kick off the 2013 Carnival season with its parade at noon Sunday in Metairie.
The parade will take the traditional Metairie route, beginning near Clearview Shopping Center and proceeding east onto Veterans Memorial Boulevard. It will not turn onto Severn Avenue or onto Bonnabel Boulevard.
The parade will disband at Veterans and Martin Behrman Avenue.
In addition to the 16 floats, there will be several bands and marching groups.
Grand marshal for this year’s parade will be recording artist and actor Greg Cipes. He is also the voice of many characters featured on the Cartoon Network.
There will be 230 members riding in this year’s parade.
Reigning as king will be Austin Engel, and the queen is Abby Shelenhamer. And captains of this year’s Krewe of Little Rascals are Amanda Tinkle and Taylor Shelenhamer.
The theme of the parade is “They Said It Couldn’t Be Done.” Organizers said the theme is a salute to the founders, organizers, parents and alumni of the Little Rascals.
The Jefferson Chamber will hold its business and breakfast meeting from 7:50 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Double Tree Hotel, 2150 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Kenner.
The cost is $10 for Chamber members and $20 for all others. The cost includes breakfast.

The members of the youth group at Christ the King Lutheran Church are collecting donations of Mardi Gras beads for the children of Angels’ Place who will ride in the Krewe of Excalibur parade at 7 p.m. Feb. 1 in Metairie.
If you have beads you would like to donate, bring them to the church, 1001 West Esplanade Ave., Kenner.
This is the last week that beads will be collected.

Also, the church’s Krewe of Noah will hold its parade on Jan. 27 following the 10:30 a.m. church service.
In addition to the parade, which will follow the traditional parade route in and around the church parking lot, there will be food and refreshments.
And finally, Christ the King is collecting shoes and winter coats to be delivered to the homeless at Ozanam Inn.
Shoes in all sizes for children and adults as well as coats are needed. If you are donating tennis shoes, tie the laces together to be sure there are no mismatches.

St. Augustine’s Episcopal Pre-School, 3412 Haring Road, Metairie, will host an open house at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 and again at 9 a.m. Jan. 25.
