Terrytown — A Belle Chasse man died on Wednesday after sideswiping a vehicle and crashing into a tree in Terrytown on a foggy Wednesday morning.
Richard Gorman, 44, died in the 800 block of Legion Drive after an accident around 10 a.m., said Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Fortunato said Gorman was driving south on Legion Drive when he sideswiped another vehicle, lost control of his car and crashed into a tree.
Gorman died at the scene, and no injuries were immediately reported for the driver of the vehicle he struck. Fortunato said it appears Gorman was speeding prior to the crash.
New Orleans — A 20-year old man suspected in fatal shooting in New Orleans and Slidell confessed to one of the killings under questioning, according to New Orleans police.
Michael Smith turned himself in to police on Tuesday just hours after police announced they were searching for him in connection with the killing of Joshua Walker, 25, in the 3400 block of Audubon Court on Sunday. Slidell police also have identified Smith as a suspect in the killing of Warren Pryor, 21, on Gause Boulevard on Monday night.
According to court records, Smith was identified as a suspect in Walker’s death after witnesses claimed to have seen him shoot Walker. When police questioned Smith, he initially denied being involved.
However, the records say that under repeated questioning, Smith eventually confessed to the homicide. Slidell police are still waiting for a chance to question Smith.
New Orleans — A 17-year- old boy found with a gunshot wounds to the face on Tuesday afternoon has been identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.
Chief Investigator John Gagliano said the body found in the 1600 block of North Rocheblave Street was that of Aaron Ganier. Police found Ganier on Tuesday afternoon after receiving an anonymous tip that his body had been lying in the back yard of a home for some time.
Gagliano said it appears that Ganier had been dead for possibly 24 hours before he was discovered. No motive or suspects have been identified in the case.
Kenner — Police say they’ve captured the gunman in an armed robbery Sunday at a Kenner convenience store.
Police had already announced the arrest of Jonathan Butler, 23, the alleged getaway driver in the robbery in the 4300 block of Williams Boulevard. On Wednesday, police arrested Roderick Lathers, 19, at his Kenner home, thanks to help from a federal fugitive taskforce. Lathers confessed to the robbery and was booked with armed robbery.
Marrero — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said it arrested five suspects for armed robbery on Tuesday and four of the suspects were teenagers.
Israel Britton, 17, Daniel Wilson, 18, Jasmond Martin, 20, Rogers Hart III, 17, and Cantell Anderson, 18, were all booked with three counts of armed robbery in connection with an incident on Mt. Whitney Drive in Marrero.
Police say the suspects robbed three men who were walking in the area, taking a cellphone, a hat and $16 in cash, according to an arrest report. Some of the suspects held weapons on the victims, while others searched their pockets, the report said.
New Orleans — Two New Orleans teenagers have been booked with being principals to attempted murder after, police said, they transported two gunmen to a Gentilly shooting on Tuesday.
Stacy Wilson, 19, and Shai Parker, 19, were booked on Tuesday shortly after police began investigating a shooting in the 2500 block of Acacia Street.
According to court records, police say the two women transported two gunmen to the street around 12:20 p.m. and pointed out the victims. A 23-year-old man was shot multiple times in the incident. Police say a witness gave police a description of the vehicle in the incident, and the women were arrested nearby.
New Orleans — A Michoud man is accuse of aggravated assault and criminal damage to property after police say he shot up a home after a man tried to prevent him from selling drugs in the neighborhood on Christmas.
Police began investigating the incident the day after Christmas and booked Hoang Nguyen, 46, on Wednesday. According to court records, Nguyen became angry after a resident in the 14000 block of Chef Menteur confronted him about selling drugs in a trailer park on Christmas afternoon.
The victim told police that Nguyen returned to the trailer park that night, pulled a gun on him and opened fire. The victim was able to avoid being shot, but several trailers were struck. Although Nguyen wore a mask, the victim was able to identify him by a distinctive face tattoo, the records say.
New Orleans — A New Orleans woman intent on retrieving a sex tape from her ex-boyfriend stole several items from his home on Monday, authorities say.
According to court records, Melissa Ruffin, 37, first attacked her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend with a knife at a home on Linden Street after that woman answered the man’s phone. Ruffin then tried to cut the boyfriend, but he barricaded himself in a bedroom, the records said.
The victim reported that Ruffin came around to a rear window, opened it, and removed a camcorder and several other items from the house.
The man was able to flag down an officer who was passing on the street when he ran outside to chase Ruffin, the records say. She was booked with home invasion and aggravated assault.
