Candidates began signing up in the races for two vacant state House seats on Wednesday.
A race for the Baton Rouge area House District 65 seat attracted two Republicans — businessman Barry Ivey, of Baton Rouge, and Metro Council member Scott Wilson, of Central.
State Rep. Clif Richardson, R-Central, resigned for health reasons.
An open Jefferson Parish House District 79 seat also gained three Republican contenders — Allison Bent Bowler and Jack Rizzuto, both of Metairie, and Julie Stokes, of Kenner.
Bowler is finance director of Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans. Rizzuto came in third in the 2007 race for the seat. Stokes is an accountant.
State Rep. Anthony “Tony” Ligi, R-Metairie, resigned to take a job heading the Jefferson Business Council.
Candidate signup continues through Friday. The election is March 2.
