BAKER — King XXVIII Brent Fuselier and his wife, Queen XXVIII Dr. Gwen Fuselier, reigned over the Krewe Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler’s 28th Mardi Gras Gala on Jan. 26 at the Municipal Auditorium.
Krewe President Leona Benoit welcomed members and guests to the evening with a theme of “The Wild World of Sports.”
Presiding as ball captain was Pat Sullivan.
Queen XXVII Candie Bouquet, representing the 2012 “Tall Tales and Legends” ball as Lady Godiva, completed her reign by relinquishing the traditional krewe rhinestone scepters to the newly crowned 2013 king and queen.
Serving as the masters of ceremonies for the evening were Jordan Charlet, Garry Schenk and Dr. Blair Wilbert. They directed the tableau while representing sports announcers reporting from the LLBTR Sports Center Desk.
The ball captain was introduced representing America’s favorite pastime sport of baseball. He honored his favorite American League team, the Boston Red Sox.
King Fuselier took his bow as the fan favorite sport of NFL football. His regal attire was inspired by the New Orleans Saints.
His queen represented the Saintsations, the New Orleans Saints cheerleaders.
Court participants and their sports were Peggy Hebert, the highly disciplined female team water sport of synchronized swimming; Tracy Carroll, the clay court sport of women’s tennis; Reagan Huckabee, the international sport of women’s soccer; and Clif Murphy, the gentlemen’s sport of golf.
The 2013 Board of Directors entertained the audience representing the “Wild World of Sports” uniformed referees. They called the “wild” game plays and “wildly” blew their whistles as guests participated in a free throw basketball contest, bowling tournament and a sports trivia question-and-answer challenge.
Krewe officers are President Leona Benoit, Past President Wendy Elbourne, President-elect Chrisy Wilbert, Secretary Melanie Sullivan, Treasurer Barbara Mier, and board members Tracy Carroll, Jimmy DeFranceshi, Peggy Hebert, Johnny Grimmett, Lisa Munn, Pam O’Neil, Clif Murphy, Kim Overstreet and Margaret Scroggs.
The dance band for the evening was Domino. Tableau lighting was by Hayes Taylor. Tableau audio was by Jacob Heintz, and choreography was by Peggy Hebert. Videographer was Rick Richards. Pre-ball and tableau music were by Peggy Hebert. Tableau and still photography were by Rhonda Gerald. Costumes were designed by Pam O’Neil and D&D, of Kenner, and executed by Tracy Carroll, Cathy DeFranceschi, Peggy Hebert, Pam O’Neil and D&D, of Kenner. The stage set was design by Tracy Carroll and crafted by Pat Sullivan and krewe members. Ballroom scenery was by Tracy Carroll, Melanie Sullivan and krewe members.
