Suspect arrestedin robbery; 2 sought
LAFAYETTE — Two siblings, 12 and 5 years old, were home alone Friday when they were ordered to sit at the kitchen table while three gunmen rummaged through their Carmel Drive home, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The break-in, which occurred at around 5:30 p.m., resulted in no injuries, sheriff’s Capt. Kip Judice said.
Judice said that after the break-in, the children called their parents, who alerted the Sheriff’s Office. Judice said the genders of the siblings would not be released.
Detectives pieced together evidence that led to the description of the car used in the alleged crime, which matched the description of a “suspicious vehicle” seen by a patrol deputy in the area the day before, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
That connection led to the arrest of the car’s owner, Curtis James Dean, 22, of Carencro. The news release stated that detectives located stolen items from the Carmel Drive home in Dean’s home and car.
The remaining two suspects — Joseph Phillip James, 20, and his brother Jornathan are being sought, Judice said.
Both men reside in Lafayette, and anyone with information is urged to call Lafayette Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS, Judice said.
Dean is being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
