Republican Women hears Cassidy’s wife
Dr. Laura Cassidy, wife of U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy, spoke to the Republican Women of Baton Rouge on Nov. 28 at Drusilla Seafood Restaurant.
President Wanda Aizpurua thanked members Linda Hull and Emily Domingue for chairing the fundraiser for RWBR’s scholarship fund. A scholarship will be awarded to a Republican female student who has completed one year of studies in law, mass communications, political science or government.
The nominating committee announced new officers for 2013: President Jane St. Amant, First Vice President Emily Domingue, Second Vice President Angie Jones, Corresponding Secretary Cathy Childers, Treasurer Dina Leon and Recording Secretary Loren Barrios.
Members donated food products to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and money to the Wounded Warriors Project.
Philharmonic Club has Christmas party
The Philharmonic Club of Baton Rouge held its Christmas party on Dec. 9 at Tani Bush’s home.
Rita Lovett planned and accompanied a seasonal program involving members Billie Bell, Susan Brys, Constance Navratil, Mary-Lynn Sachse and Rose Mary Williams in four-part singing. Also at the piano was Marianne Parker who accompanied club members in Christmas songs.
Hostess Chairwoman Melanie McRoberts, assisted by Edith Kirkpatrick, Lorice Say and Billie Bell, prepared a luncheon of crawfish étouffée, curried fruit, drinks and desserts. Members exchanged Christmas gifts.
Stirling DAR assists Veterans Home event
The Alexander Stirling Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Louisiana War Veterans Home on Dec. 22 to help veterans who use wheelchairs see a special event that was planned for them.
On display were 102 Harley -Davidson motorcycles that arrived from the Baton Rouge area. Ten area Harley-Davidson clubs visited on their motorcycles, bringing gifts for all the veterans, and they sang Christmas carols. DAR members passed out the gifts to the veterans. During the program the members sat with the veterans and sang with them as the Harley choir led Christmas songs.
On Dec. 15, DAR members participated in Wreaths Across America at the Port Hudson National Cemetery. Cynthia Beauvais gave a program on the founding of the annual wreath laying ceremony that was started in Maine by businessmanMorrillWorcester, in 1992. Members placed wreaths on the graves of 16 veterans.
