FAU’s 3-pointers level ULL, 79-44

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Florida Atlantic made 11 three-pointers, including five during a decisive 19-5 run midway through the second half, to beat the Louisiana-Lafayette women’s basketball team 79-44 on Wednesday night in the FAU Arena.

While Florida Atlantic was shooting 48 percent from 3-point range (11-of-23), setting a season-high for 3-pointers by a ULL opponent, cold shooting and turnovers hurt the ULL offense. The Cajuns managed just 29 percent shooting (18-of-62) while committing 19 turnovers and having 13 shots blocked.

Keke Veal to score 10 point for the Ragin’ Cajuns (7-7, 1-4 Sun Belt) Jasmin Mills had 11 rebounds.

Latavia Dempsey led the Owls (8-5, ,5-0) with 19 points, while Chenise Miller added 16 points, and Kimberly Smith and Takia Brooks each had 11 points.

ALABAMA A&M 78, GRAMBLING 56: Brittney Strickland scored 14 points and had three assists and three steals for Alabama A&M.

Ebony Johnson added 11 points for A&M (2-9, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference), and Clarissa Moore had 10 rebounds and eight points.

Jessica Watkins came off the bench to score 14 points and grab five rebounds for Grambling (1-11, 0-1). Joanna Miller scored 13 points and Kamiya Burwell had 12.

xavier 75, Bethel 67, 2 OT: In New Orleans, Andraquay Quinnine scored six of her career-high 18 points in extra periods to help NAIA No. 9 Xavier University beat No. 12 Bethel (Tenn.) 75-67 in double overtime.

Paige Gauthier had a career-high 14 points, a career-high-tying eight rebounds, a season-high seven assists and four steals for Xavier (10-2). Carmen Holcombe scored a season-high 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Alisha Gentry scored 23 points for Bethel (12-3).

(12-3). Jasmine Taylor scored 15 points, and Perica Glenn matched her season highs of 13 points and 14 rebounds. Gentry was 4-of-9 on 3-pointers, but her teammates were a collective 0-of-16.
