The Zachary branch library’s Teen Council is observing its 10th anniversary of service to the library with a 6:30 p.m. Tuesday party to welcome old and new members. The teenagers meet monthly to provide input and assistance to the branch.
They also have open-mike nights, quiz bowls and other library-related activities. Teens are invited to attend the Tuesday meeting to get in the mix. For more information, call (225) 658-1870.
The monthly Clinton Community Market welcomes the new year from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the downtown area. Fresh produce, shrubs to plant this month and gifts of all kinds are available from participating vendors. Boudin and barbecue are on the menu.
The holiday jazz concert originally scheduled Dec. 28 will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Baker Municipal Auditorium. The concert is sponsored by the Baker Heritage Museum Commission and will be led by Walter Perry, a Baker resident and McKinley High School band director.
The public is invited to attend.
Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site in St. Francisville continues its series of “Garden Tour Fridays” at 10 a.m. Friday, with horticulturist Patricia Aleshire leading visitors through selected portions of the 19th-century garden.
The tour begins at the site office.
The Zachary Early Learning Center will have its pre-kindergarten roundup from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, and parents of incoming pre-kindergarten students in the 2013-2014 school year are asked to participate in this early registration. The students must be 4 years old by Sept. 30.
Parents are asked to download a registration packet from the school website, http://www.zacharyelc.org. They also must bring the child’s birth certificate, Social Security account card, immunization record, four current items to prove residency and the $50 registration fee. Lane Regional Medical Center’s Diabetes Support Group meets at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Zachary hospital for persons with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, as well as other family members or friends.
Registration is not required.
Members of the Zachary High School Marching Band visited Tampa, Fla., for the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day, participating as part of a mass band during halftime and marching in the bowl parade on New Year’s Eve.
Teenagers are invited to a 4 p.m. book discussion Wednesday at the Baker branch library on Groom Road. The teens will discuss the current books they’re reading and stories they may read next. Light refreshments will be served.
