Two men die in single-car crash

Two Guatemalan nationals died early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on La. 449 about 1.5 miles north of La. 16 in St. Helena Parish, State Police said.

Maximiliano Millian, 30, was driving a 1997 Lexus 300 south on La. 449 at 1:20 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he drifted across the center line and off the roadway to the left, Trooper First Class Nick Manale said in a news release.

Millian and his 18-year-old front seat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, Manale said.

The 18-year-old’s identity was not released because troopers are still trying to notify his family members of his death, Manale said.

Millian was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Manale said. The 18-year-old was not wearing a seat belt, Manale said. Troopers are not sure at this time if impairment was a factor in the crash, Manale said. Toxicology results are still pending.
