Want to know the best fishing spots in Louisiana? Looking for a charter boat captain? Need a fishing license?
State tourism officials are launching a “fishing microsite” in January that provides online information to those wanting to land the big one or talk about the one that got away.
“It’s an area of emphasis for us because fishing is one of our many passions in Louisiana. We want to give the industry a shot in the arm,” Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne said.
“It’s the finest fishing destination in the world.”
The microsite will be a link on the tourism agency’s website, www.louisianatravel.com.
Dardenne said the site will be chock-full of information, such as freshwater and saltwater fishing opportunities, loading and landing sites, where record-setting fish have been caught, types of fish and where they can be caught, fishing limits and seasons, as well as help finding guides and charter fishing businesses.
There will also be a link to the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website where people can purchase fishing licenses online, he said.
There will even be an opportunity for people to share their fish stories, Dardenne said.
“The goal is to have it up right after the first of the year,” Dardenne said. “I hope it’s going to be very popular. I think it’s going to provide a wealth of information for people who want to travel to fish.”
Dardenne said the agency will be looking for opportunities to promote the site, which is part the state’s 2013 tourism push. The site is designed to encourage outdoor adventures.
The tourism campaign will also promote Louisiana music and places and events where it is showcased, Dardenne said.
“We are looking at what we need to do to get the word out with the budget constraints we are operating under,” Dardenne said.
A new round of state budget cuts occurred earlier this month because revenues were lagging behind earlier predictions.
The tourism agency will use contacts it has with Bass Masters and the charter fishing association and maybe do some targeted advertising, Dardenne said.
