Police seek suspects
in pair of stabbings

Lafayette police are seeking information about two separate stabbing incidents that occurred late Tuesday and early Wednesday, Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release.

At 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a large fight inside Shakers nightclub downtown in which a 20-year-old man was stabbed twice in the back, Mouton said.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a physical altercation involving two drivers at the intersection of Interstate 49 and Pont des Mouton Road where a 42-year-old man was stabbed, Mouton said.

The drivers pulled off on the shoulder of I-49 after exchanging “hand gestures” when the attacker drove “dangerously close” to the victim’s vehicle, Mouton said.

The victim was stabbed several times by his attacker, who was driving an older-model white panel van and is described as a white man in his 40s, Mouton said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incidents or the attackers’ identities to contact police or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-8477.

Man sought in theft of woman’s vehicle

Lafayette police are looking for a carjacker who stole a jeep earlier this week at a gas station in the 100 block of West Gloria Switch Road, Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release.

The victim told police that she drove up to the gas pump and was approached by a man wearing dark clothing who pushed her to the ground, causing minor injuries, Mouton said.

The carjacker then stole the victim’s white 2001 Jeep Cherokee with Louisiana license plate WQZ047, police said. The victim reported the incident at 7:42 p.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information about the incident or the carjacker’s identity is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-8477.
