AMITE — A Ponchatoula woman was killed in a head-on collision west of Amite, State Police said Thursday.
Carly Cutrer, 25, was traveling west on La. 16 about a mile west of Interstate 55 around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, when for unknown reasons her car drifted across the center line into the oncoming lane and collided with a sport utility vehicle, Trooper Nicholas Manale said in a news release.
Cutrer was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene, Manale said.
The driver of the SUV, 38-year-old Sean Zimmerman, of Roxie, Miss., was properly restrained and received minor injuries in the crash, Manale said.
Two other occupants of Zimmerman’s vehicle, 63-year-old Anita Zimmerman and 66-year-old Steve Zimmerman, also were wearing seat belts and were transported to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond for treatment of minor injuries.
Toxicology examinations will be conducted on evidence samples from both drivers at the State Police Crime Lab, Manale said. Driver impairment is not suspected.
