AUBURN, Ala. — The LSU diving team finished the fall portion of its season with the platform dive during Day 3 of the Auburn Diving Invitational on Wednesday.
Over the course of the meet, LSU captured three out of six individual titles in a field that consisted of Alabama, Auburn and Georgia Tech.
“This was a perfect culmination for an excellent fall campaign for our diving squad,” diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “We are looking forward to some down time, some time with the family and to put some gas back in the tank. We will come back and work even harder as we move to the champion season.”
Freshman Allie Alter finished third with a score of 241.50, LSU’s third best total ever. Her score qualified her for the NCAA Zone Diving Regionals.
Elle Schmidt posted a fourth place with a score of 235.75, LSU’s fourth best all-time.
“Every time we get up there and have an opportunity to compete as individuals and as a team, we are developing more and more on the platform,” Shaffer said. “This is exactly what we want to see from competition to competition.”
Junior Kevin Leong posted LSU’s fourth best all-time platform score (329.30) and ended his run in fourth. Junior Daniel Helm notched a season best with a score of 322.70.
The LSU divers return to action at the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Jan. 3. The divers will be competing against a field that includes Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Georgia, James Madison, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Penn State, SMU, San Diego State, Tennessee and Virginia.
The LSU men’s swim team will host Kentucky for Senior Day at 10 a.m. Jan. 5 in the LSU Natatorium. Admission to home meets is free.
