Emily Winners, Louisiana Bayou Bluebird Society 2011 Bluebirder of the Year, spoke at Burden Horticulture Society’s December Reflections in the Garden program about building a garden for birds.
Winners talked about her work with the Junior Garden Club of Lecompte to start a bluebird trail called “Bluebirds on the Bayou” in 2007. The trail originated along Bayou Bouef in Lecompte and has grown to more than 50 bluebird houses throughout Lecompte, Cheneyville, Forest Hill and Alexandria. People are reporting seeing bluebirds in areas they’ve not been seen before.
