Letter: Placement of gun ad lacked judgment

On page 5A of the Dec. 14 paper, a story appeared about the Portland, Ore., mall shooting. There were pictures also of the two people who were killed by this cruel act.

However, what raises my concern is how could the paper allow an ad for the sale of an assault rifle posted next to this sad, tragic story.

This to me is in very poor taste, and the paper should be held accountable and to do a better job of posting these kinds of ads in the right layout. Clearly this ad should not have been on the same page nor adjacent to this story.

I don’t think that this was deliberately done, but still it was in poor taste and judgment. Look at this page and tell me what do you think? It was not the right thing to do considering the contents of this story.
