FORDOCHE — A Morganza teenager died Sunday after a single-car crash on La. 77 south of La. 81 in Pointe Coupee Parish, a State Police spokesman said.
Hunter T. Kirkland, 18, was driving a 2006 GMC Sierra south on La. 77 around noon when, for unknown reasons, he failed to make it around a curve and instead ran off the road to the right, Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release.
Kirkland overcorrected, crossed over both lanes of La. 77 and struck a utility pole, Sandifer said.
Kirkland was wearing a seat belt but died in the crash, Sandifer said.
Troopers are unsure at this time if impairment is a factor in the crash but have submitted a toxicology sample from Kirkland to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Sandifer said.
