Our Views: At a busy spot, a memorial

The tragic deaths of two Indian graduate students at the hands of criminals shocked and angered LSU and the larger Baton Rouge community five years ago.

The dedication of a fountain and remembrance garden near the International Cultural Center on the campus lakefront is a fitting memorial to the students, Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam.

One of their classmates, Vasmi Boyapati, said the garden is in the right spot: “This is a really popular place in which people are walking and running and enjoying themselves.”

The loss to the families, and to India, where they should have returned as LSU alumni, is nevertheless very great.
