Norman Morris, senior vice president of governmental affairs of Louisiana Realtors, has earned the Realtor association certified executive designation from the National Association of Realtors. The designation recognizes exceptional efforts made by the Realtor association executives, based on documented association management and academic experiences and an examination.

Three Southern University officials are among eight Louisiana Role Models honored by the Baton Rouge chapter of The Links Inc. They are Wanda Raby Spurlock, an associate professor in the school of nursing; Diola Bagayoko, SU System distinguished professor of physics; and Edward Pratt, director of media relations and publications.

Spurlock was recognized for community volunteerism with organizations that help improve the quality of life of people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers and her commitment to those efforts through The Links health and human services committee. Bagayoko was recognized for his mentoring work centered on the success of the Timbuktu Academy, which he began in 1990. Pratt, who has worked as a newspaper reporter, columnist and editor, was recognized for his focus on issues that reflect the challenges and problems of local communities.

Jill Johnson, a retired professor from the LSU College of Veterinary Medicine, was presented the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ 2012 Distinguished Educator Award. She was recognized for her inventive teaching and testing methods, which the organization said encouraged critical thinking and curiosity among the veterinary and graduate students she trained for 34 years. She retired from LSU in 2011, but continues to pursue research projects on blood typing/immunogenetics, GPS technology for racehorses and hospital-acquired salmonella infections in horses.

Several LSU college of science faculty and researchers have been named Fellows of prestigious organizations.
