JACKSON — Two organizations interested in the humane treatment of animals are holding a public meeting Thursday night to discuss two incidents in which cats were killed in East Feliciana Parish.
The Humane Society of Louisiana and Alley Cat Allies are holding the 7 p.m. meeting at the Jackson Civic Center, 2084 La. 10.
The groups are offering rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing the cats, a news release from the groups says.
The news release says a Booker Lane resident found his kitten hanged Oct. 7 from a low-lying branch in his yard. A $5,000 reward is offered in that case.
In the other case, about a dozen cats living at an abandoned residence on Butler Lane in Ethel were killed or wounded in November.
The total reward offered for information in that case is now $11,000, the news release says.
