New Orleans Police officers arrested a 16-year-old boy in a food store Saturday night minutes after he robbed a man at gunpoint of his cellphone and wallet on a nearby street, a New Orleans Police Department spokeswoman said.
The 16-year-old boy was sent to the Juvenile Division for processing, spokeswoman Remi Braden said in a news release.
A detective spotted the teen fitting the robber’s description in the 3200 block of St. Claude Avenue minutes after the victim called in the robbery at 10:40 p.m. in the 3600 block of Royal Street, Braden said.
The detective called for backup and followed the boy into a food store on St. Claude Avenue, where the detective and two other officers arrested the boy and found a loaded .40-caliber handgun reported stolen from St. Bernard Parish, Braden said.
