How long does F.G. Sullivan contractors have to complete the La. 19 project between Slaughter and Zachary?

Response from Lauren Lee, public information officer for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development:

The overlay work on La. 19 between La. 64 and the East Feliciana Parish line is substantially complete as of October 2012, with only minor punch-list items remaining. These remaining items will be performed as weather permits, with some brief intermittent and evening lane closures. These closures will be scheduled so that impacts to traffic are minimal.

Number of state employees

Can you provide the overall changes in the total number of state employees and the total salary figures between the time Gov. Bobby Jindal took office and now?

As of the last full month of Gov. Kathleen Blanco’s term December 2007, there were 62,260 classified employees and 31,294 unclassified employees for a total of 93,554, according to State Civil Service, state government’s personnel agency. The total payroll was
$4.05 billion.

Since Gov. Bobby Jindal took

office in 2008, the number of employees has declined by 19,209 employees based on Civil Service statistics. At the end of December 2012, there were 49,120 classified employees and 25,235 unclassified employees.
The total payroll as of the end of 2012 was $3.7 billion, according to the pay report.

Classified employees are those with Civil Service job protection from political interference. Unclassified employees can be fired at will and include political appointees.
