Jim Engster gave reflections and insights on local and national political figures for the LSU Faculty and Staff Retirees Club on Nov. 12. The Louisiana Network radio president has a weekday morning interview show on Baton Rouge’s public radio station, WRKF.
President Shirley Mundt distributed constitutional changes to review, Program Committee Chair Terril Faul discussed past and upcoming field trips, and Carolyn Crawford reported on upgraded email databases. Crawford, Joan Benedict, Rose Mary Wilhem, Barbara Bryant, Jynx Marcel and Jane Beyer provided refreshments.
Neil G. Odenwald, co-author of “Plants of the South” and “The Bountiful Flower Garden,” spoke about heirloom plants to the Nov. 5 Burden Horticulture Society’s “Reflections in the Garden” program. He talked about which plants do well in the Baton Rouge area, how to place them in the landscape and passing plants on to friends.
Odenwald is professor emeritus and former director of the LSU School of Landscape Architecture.
“Reflections in the Garden” is a monthly lunch-and-learn program about horticulture and gardening. Wanda Chase assisted Program Chairwoman Sherry Eubanks with arranging 2012 programs. Emily Winners, Louisiana Bayou Bluebird Society 2011 Bluebirder of the Year, spoke about building a garden for birds Dec. 3 at the LSU AgCenter Burden Conference Center, 4560 Essen Lane.
