The temperature outside isn’t quite cold enough for snow but officials at Lafreniere Park will somehow make sure it snows on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The park’s annual Snow Day is free and open to children age 12 and younger.
The snow will fall near the Carousel inside the park, located at 3000 Downs Blvd., Metairie.
And speaking of Lafreniere Park, the annual “Holiday in the Park” light display opened on Nov. 30 at Lafreniere Park and will continue every night until Jan. 1.
The display is open from dusk to 9:45 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and from dusk to 11:45 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Downs Boulevard entrance to the park, located off Veterans Memorial Boulevard, will close at 5 p.m. each night. Vehicles must enter the park from the West Napoleon Avenue entrance.
The entrance fee for the display is $3 per car. However, admission will be free on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Some of the display items include a 60-foot sea serpent, a princess and castle and traditional favorites such as snowmen, elves and Santa Claus.
There will be entertainment nightly from area schools. Also, the Carousel will be open every night, and the cost to ride is $1 per person.

On Monday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Barnes & Noble in Metairie, volunteers with the Friends of the Jefferson Parish Library will serve as guest wrappers.
Peg Phelps, spokeswoman for the Friends, said brochures and information about the organization will be available.
Phelps also wants to remind local residents that the Friends store, inside the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave, Metairie, is fully stocked with a variety of holiday gift items such as jewelry, pens, writing pads, puzzles, toys and games.
“Our signature New Orleans afghans are also for sale,” Phelps said.
The store hours are Monday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
The Louisiana SPCA will sponsor its annual holiday pet photos on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.. at Jefferson Feed. Pet and Garden Center, 4421 Jefferson Highway, Old Jefferson.
The cost is $25 and includes a CD of 10 digital photos of you or your family and your pet. All proceeds will go to the programs and services of the SPCA and the Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue.

No Time for Crime, a new civic organization dedicated to engaging at-risk youth in the metropolitan area, will hold its community kickoff project with a skate party on Friday, Dec. 14, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Airline Skate Center, 6711 Airline Drive, Metairie.
The aim of the organization is to provide young people throughout the New Orleans area with affordable community events, mentoring and training in the local music industry.
Friday’s event is called “Skate 2 Dat Beat.” Tickets are $10 per person in advance or at the door.

St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 6017 Camphor St., Metairie, is having its third annual “Caroling on Camphor” on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Participants will gather on the front lawn of the church to sing Christmas carols. There will also be a live nativity.
Afterward, everyone is invited into the church’s Fellowship Hall for a visit with Santa Claus, apple cider, hot chocolate, cookies and door prizes.

American Legion Kenner Post 377, located at 3740 Florida Avenue (on the corner of 38th street and Florida Avenue), will be opening Santa’s Last Stop Holiday Shopping Boutique on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The event is hosted by Celeste Haar of MetryChick and will feature 20 local artists and businesses. Vendors include Barrett House, Milestone Photography, My Fleur de Tee and DM Concepts, among many others.
All funds raised through booth rentals, door prizes and concessions will directly benefit the American Legion Post 377 veterans programs.
