Dental care slated for musicians

Free dental exams, X-rays and teeth cleanings will be available for music professionals from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic, 1317 Jefferson St.

The event is open to all music professionals: musicians, engineers, music producers and music agents.

Advance registration and an appointment is required. Space is limited and music professionals must contact MusiCares at (877) 626-2748 to complete an eligibility application and receive appointment times.

The Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation Health Care Initiative event is offered in partnership with MusiCares, the SMILE program and the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic.

Scholarship info seminar Saturday

High school seniors interested in scholarship opportunities are invited to a “Scholarship Application Roundup” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Clifton Chenier Center, 220 W. Willow St.

The event will feature information on the O’Bryan Akeem Parker Scholarship and other scholarships offered by 13 organizations and businesses in Lafayette Parish.

Parents are encouraged to attend the event with their children.

Johns Hopkins cites ESA student

Samual Hebert, an eighth-grade student at Episcopal School of Acadiana, was recently honored during a national medal ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.

Hebert was one of 40,800 participants in the center’s Talent Search program, which recognizes the exceptional performance of middle school students on college entrance tests, including the SAT and ACT, according to a center news release.

Student Christmas concert planned

The Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts instrumental music department will perform its annual Christmas Concert at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 in the academy auditorium, 1100 E. Leo, Opelousas. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for students.

Chinese circus
to perform Dec. 14

The National Circus of the People’s Republic of China’s Cirque Chinois will perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Heymann Performing Arts Center.

The event is part of the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana’s 2012-13 season.

La. Crossroads concerts this week
