ZACHARY — The Zachary Police Department will accept outdated prescription medicines for safe disposal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the police station, 4510 Main St.
Police Chief David McDavid said free bowls of jambalaya will be given to residents who drop off any old and unwanted medicine.
The department will accept any prescription drug intended for people or pets, including pills, liquids, inhalers, patches and epinephrine autoinjectors. Syringes and medical equipment will not be accepted, McDavid said.
Liquids should be secured in bottles with tape wrapped around the caps. Residents also may drop off medicine in a drop box in the Florida Street entrance of the police station at any time, McDavid said.
The department will dispose of the collected medicines by incinerating them.
