Disc jockey named as parade grand marshal

Roland Doucet will be the grand marshal at the Ascension Christmas Parade.

Well known in the local dancing community, Doucet is the star of the radio program Roland’s Rockin’ Cajun Show on New Country WTGE-FM, 100.7 The Tiger.

Doucet first started doing radio shows in 1984, and has been teaching dance classes at LSU for the past 26 years.

Some of the classes he’s taught involve the waltz, two-step and jitterbug.

The former Marine, who was awarded the Purple Heart, became the youngest inductee of the South Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 1995.

The annual Christmas parade, presented by Eatel Corp. and the Jambalaya Festival Association, will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 9. The parade route will start at East Ascension High School and turn onto Cornerview Road and dismiss at the Bayou Bank Shopping Center.
