Iberville Parish’s Math, Science and Arts Academy-West has won the Apple Technology Distinguished School Award for the second consecutive year.
The academy, located on the E.J. Gay Campus in Plaquemine, was one of only 43 schools in the nation to be honored with the recognition.
The announcement was made recently in a letter to parish School Superintendent Ed Cancienne.
The award, which applies to the 2012-13 school year, is based on exemplary learning, innovation, leadership and educational excellence.
Criteria for the award includes visionary leadership, technological infrastructure to support digital learning, encouraging teaching and learning methods, evidence of ongoing professional development, one-to-one access to portable computers and a systematic approach to evaluating the results.
Two other Louisiana schools — West Feliciana Middle School and Dunham School — also received the computer corporation awards.
The West Baton Rouge Museum invites the public to its exhibit, “Our Lives, Our Stories: America’s Greatest Generation,” which will run until Jan. 7.
The exhibit explores the life arc of the World War II generation.
The museum is also partnering with LSU’s Division of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising for an educational fashion show, “When and Wear: Threads of a Generation,” on Dec. 9.
The fashion show is being held in conjunction with the exhibition.
LSU students and professors from the division are working with the museum to produce fashions that will feature original creations by students that are inspired by the decades explored in the exhibit — 1910s through 1960s.
