Good things will be cooking Saturday in the old kitchen at Rosedown State Historic Site in St. Francisville. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., interpretative Ranger Sasha Trana will cook up a 19th-century Thanksgiving dinner using down-hearth cooking equipment in the kitchen outbuilding.
Visitors will see how meals were prepared before the invention of gas or electric stoves or microwave ovens.
The Baker Heritage Museum will be repeating a very popular activity this holiday season, a live Nativity presentation featuring a recitation of the Christmas story accompanied by choirs and including a display of live animals.
The museum needs additional animals for the presentation: docile and sociable sheep, donkeys, ponies or even cows. Call (225) 774-1776. The program will be presented at 6 p.m. on Dec. 3, 5 and 7.
Zachary Kiwanis Club members will be selling pastalaya dinners from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Wal-Mart store in Zachary. The club is raising funds for Kiwanis International’s focus on eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus.
United Blood Services will hold a blood drive at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday. The drive is open to the public, and registration is not required. Donors, however, are encouraged to sign up online at http://www.bloodhero.com, using the sponsor code LaneRegional.
Lane also will hold a babysitter training class from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for girls and boys 11-13 years of age to learn the fundamentals of quality child care. The cost is $20. Class size is limited, and registration is required. Call (225) 654-LANE (5263).
A special community market will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in downtown Clinton. More than 100 vendors will be offering wares of every kind. Stroll around the newly restored East Feliciana Parish Courthouse while you’re shopping.
Members of the Feliciana chapter of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute may chose one of two nature walks planned Friday at Port Hudson State Historic Site on U.S. 61 in East Feliciana Parish. Members will meet at 10 a.m. at the museum parking lot. Of the two walks planned, one is “mildly strenuous,” and the other is much less strenuous.
Artist Thereza Weis, of Zachary, has six of her artworks on display through January at the Zachary utility office on Main Street. She is a native of Brazil and studied music and art in schools in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. She has lived in Zachary for 20 years.
The Design-Build Institute of America recently awarded its 2012 Design Excellence Award to the state Department of Transportation and Development and Audubon Bridge Constructors for the design of the John James Audubon Bridge over the Mississippi River between West Feliciana and Pointe Coupee parishes.
