A Baton Rouge police officer fired a shot into a car Sunday after the driver of the vehicle tried to run the officer over, police spokesman Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said Monday.
The bullet hit the steering wheel of the car and did not injure the driver, Terrance Hilton, 32, 4848 Monarch Ave., Baton Rouge, Stubbs said.
Hilton tried to run over the officer and three of his colleagues when they saw drugs inside Hilton’s vehicle and asked Hilton to get out of the car, Stubbs said.
Instead of getting out of his car, Hilton sped toward the officers, causing the officer in front of the car to fear for his life and fire a shot into the vehicle, Stubbs said.
Once the shot was fired, Hilton stopped the vehicle and surrendered to authorities, Stubbs said.
Hilton was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on four counts of aggravated assault upon a police officer.
Two Baton Rouge police officers Saturday night used a stun gun twice on a drunken man who fought with them and ran away when they attempted to arrest him near a restaurant at LSU’s North Gate area on Highland Road, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Kyle Joseph Eccles, 18, 228 Fort Jackson Road, Belle Chasse, was booked into Parish Prison on two counts of battery on a police officer and one count each of disturbing the peace by public intoxication, resisting by force or violence, and simple battery, parish prison records show.
A woman told an officer working extra duty at Serranos Restaurant on Highland Road around 10:15 p.m. that Eccles grabbed her inappropriately, the affidavit says.
The officer attempted to escort Eccles out of the restaurant, but Eccles resisted, the affidavit say. In attempts to subdue him, officers fired Taser stun guns at Eccles, the affidavit says.
Despite being hit by the shots, Eccles tried to run off and was tackled by the officers and a Serranos customer, the affidavit says.
Eccles told police later that he did not remember what happened because he was so intoxicated, the affidavit says.
Baton Rouge police are investigating a shooting Monday in the 2000 block of Oak Grove Drive.
Police were called at 5:50 p.m. and officers found a 17-year-old man shot in the leg, police spokesman Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Stubbs said.
Police do not have any motives or suspects at this time, Stubbs said.
Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:30 p.m. Monday, booking records show.
