Lady Tigers wrap exhibition play against North Alabama

The LSU Lady Tigers are built this season around feeding off of the intensity and drive of senior guard Adrienne Webb.

Apparently, that intensity doesn’t rest in exhibition games.

Despite coasting to a 75-34 win Thursday over Xavier of New Orleans, Webb wasn’t happy with one facet of the Lady Tigers’ game, something she hopes they can clean up in their second and final preseason game against North Alabama.

“We want to continue to carry over what we have done in practice this week into the game,” Webb said Monday. “We didn’t do so well boxing out in the first game, and that led to second-chance points.”

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. There is no admission charge, and game video is available in the Geaux Zone section of LSUSports.net.

Tuesday’s game will be the first opportunity for fans to see LSU’s full 10-player roster. Coach Nikki Caldwell suspended freshmen Danielle Ballard, Coco Baker of Helen Cox and Derreyal Youngblood of John Curtis from the Xavier game for violations of unspecified team rules.

As planned, Caldwell reinstated all three players for Tuesday’s game.

Webb said she is eager to see Ballard, a guard from Memphis, Tenn., in action.

“Danielle is a crafty scorer,” Webb said. “She knows how to get open, get around the defense and get other people open.”

LSU is expected to go with the same starting five from the Xavier game: Webb, Bianca Lutley and Jeanne Kenney in the backcourt, Theresa Plaisance and Shanece McKinney at forwards.

All five starters were in double figures Thursday, led by 18 points from Webb.

North Alabama, a member of the Gulf South Conference in NCAA Division II, returns six letter-winners from a team that went 15-13 last season.

The Lions lost their preseason opener Thursday at Tennessee State, 69-58.

LSU opens the regular season against Wichita State at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
