Sandy cuts team’s competition short

Northside High School mock trial team members’ competition at the Empire Mock Trial Association’s international competition in Brooklyn was cut short by Hurricane Sandy last week.

The team was one of 36 teams from the United States, South Korea, Ireland, England and Canada invited to compete in the international tournament. The team was able to compete in three of four rounds before Sandy forced students’ early departure on Oct. 28, said Brandon Letulier, a local lawyer and one of the team’s coaches.

“I am extremely proud of our team who competed very well in its rounds against teams from South Korea, England and New York,” Letulier said.

During the team’s visit, they also toured Wall Street, Battery Park, World Trade Center, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Fifth Avenue, Central Park, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Letulier said.
